Bird
after dying her wings, rakka reaches out to the mirror, trying to imitate kuu's gesture on the glass, but stops. kana knocks on the door and says they're all in kuu's room, and when rakka gets there, they tell her they are taking things as mementos. rakka takes kuu's frog set, as well as her mattress. back in rakka's room, reki hauls the mattress in, as rakka sets up the frog figures and says she doesn't know how to be a good haibane, and wonders aloud what is a haibane, and why is there a wall. later, reki and rakka take the kids into the city to get coats for the winter. as reki runs ahead to deal with one of the kids who tripped, two crows stare down at rakka from the power lines. rakka looks up and runs to catch up with reki. at the clothes shop, reki chases the kids around as rakka picks out a warmer winter dress. the owner tells her she should get boots, and says that a haibane should look happy and exuberant, and she asks why. he says his mother used to tell him that haibanes were blessed and were sort of like lucky charms, and she says she's not blessed, and is a useless haibane. a human couple walks into the store, and the woman becomes very excited and goes up to rakka and flicks her halo to see if it's real. being an annoying haibane fangirl, she naturally says "cuuute!" and reaches out to touch rakka's wings, but rakka says "don't touch me!" and runs out of the store. as she runs through the street, she trips, and a man helps her up and hands her the wing cover that fell off, as a black feather falls out of it. one spotted black wing is exposed and she freaks out, grabs the wing cover, and continues to run. she cries and collapses on a windmill, saying there is no place for her at all and it would be better if she just disappeared. a crow starts to squawk at her, and she says it's calling her. she follows it into the west forest, and walks into a clearing where there is a well surrounded by crows. she starts to step into the well, and then falls into it. then she is falling like in her dream, and sees she is holding a completely black feather in one hand, which is blown away when the crow lets go of her. after falling through the clouds, a giant well appears on the ground, rather than the city. she wakes up with the feather still in her hand, sees a bird skeleton in front of her, and feels that she once knew it. as she buries she skeleton, she says she can't even remember her own name, so she can't remember that person, but she knows he/she is important to her. she tells it that she was always alone, and even without her people wouldn't feel sad, so she wanted to disappear. but that person became a bird, went over the wall, and made her no longer alone, and she asks it if that's what it was trying to tell her. and now, with very little thinking you can realize what her dream means, and why the opening starts underwater, looking up at the surface, which is followed by rakka floating through bubbles... depressed girl, deep well, falling, rebirth... wow! oh wait... that's kinda sad.
